The Middle Length Discourses of the Buddha is the translation of the sutta collection traditionally referred to as The Majjhima Nikaya. This collection, composed in an easy-to-read narrative style, is considered by many to be the most important collection of Buddhist teachings in existence. It includes a range of topics relevant to meditation practice, wise living, and the ultimate teachings of liberation. Each small study group will meet 9-10 times during the next year, to discuss and contemplate the third fifty discourses of these inspiring, provocative, and potentially liberating discourses given by the Buddha over two millenniums ago.

The course syllabus details the suttas we will discuss each month. The first homework reflections will be discussed in November. Please read before our first meeting.

Costs: $100 registration fee to cover operational expenses. The book is an additional $65. Voluntary dana offerings for the teacher are greatly appreciated.

Dana: In an effort to embrace these teachings in the spirit of generosity, no specific charge for the teacher is included in the basic course fees. A basket will be available for practicing generosity by offering voluntary donations (dana) to support the teacher and her ongoing efforts of serving the dharma.

Shaila Catherine has been teaching meditation since 1996, and practicing meditation for 25 years with several years studying with masters in India, Nepal and Thailand. She studied at the Sharpham College For Buddhist Studies in England.  Shaila’s deep love of the Buddha’s teachings and long standing devotion to these primary texts, creates an atmosphere of intimacy and delight for exploring the pragmatic contemporary implications of discourses given by the Buddha so long ago. She conducts the study sessions in a relaxed atmosphere for direct insight and meditative inquiry. These courses feel safe for the new comer to the teachings and inspiring for the seasoned practitioner.
