SUMMARY:Retreat at Lake Tahoe\, Nevada - 3 or 7 day options
DESCRIPTION:Developing  Concentration\, Insight\, and Reflections on Impermanence. \nA retreat with Shaila Catherine.\n3 night and 7 night options are available. \nThis silent insight meditation retreat will emphasize the cultivation of both concentration and mindfulness to enhance the potential for liberating insight. Mindfulness of body and breath will be the primary focus of this retreat. \nIn honor of the Halloween holiday optional instructions and guidance will be offered in the classic practices of skeleton\, corpse\, and death contemplations\, as a powerful means of exploring impermanence and nonattachment. Meditation instructions\, consultations with the teacher\, and daily dharma teachings make this retreat suitable for both new and experienced practitioners. \nThe peaceful retreat setting under great pines offers a unique opportunity for silent meditation in a setting of stunning natural beauty—an insight holiday. Set at an exquisitely beautiful retreat center right on the shore of Lake Tahoe\, participants may enjoy walking meditation on the beach\, and if weather permits\, mindful kayaking on the lake. \nDownload the flyer and the application for registration details. \nCo-sponsored by Dharma Zephyr and Bodhi-Retreats.

SUMMARY:Daylong in Saratoga – Cultivating The Meditative Path
DESCRIPTION:A day of meditation with Shaila Catherine. \nIMSB offers a day of meditation one Saturday each month. These monthly day long programs offer a consistent and easy opportunity for meditators to maintain a steady commitment to meditation\, deepen their practice\, explore various dhamma themes\, and cultivate relationships with the community—and still be home in time for dinner! \nIn IMSB’s monthly day-long programs between March and August 2016\, Shaila Catherine will explore five qualities that make the mind capable of deep meditation and empower us to live at ease in this world. See Anguttara Nikaya 5:110\, translated by Bhikkhu Bodhi\, published by Wisdom Publications. The five supports of virtue\, learning\, energetic effort\, concentration and jhana\, and liberation of mind offer a comprehensive training for living with peace\, happiness\, and wisdom. \n\nMarch – Virtue\nMay – Learning\nJune – Energetic Effort\nJuly – Concentration and Jhana\nAugust – Liberation\n\nYou will find our schedule on our Daylong and Half-day Practice Calendar. \nEach day-long in the series will stand alone.  You do not need to join the full series to participate — you are welcome to attend as many or as few Saturdays as you wish. \nThere will be a pot-luck community meal around 12:30; please bring a food dish to share. \nEveryone is welcome. There is no registration. Folding chairs are provided. Bring a mat and cushion if you prefer to sit on the floor. Beginner’s to meditation are encouraged to come on time since both sitting and walking meditation instruction are usually offered in the mornings. \nThese monthly events may take place at any of the churches where we meet—in Los Altos\, Saratoga\, or Mountain View. Be sure to double check the website event listing to identify the correct location. \nIMSB relies upon the generosity of participants to support our teachers and cover organizational expenses. Dana is a word in the ancient Pali language that describes donations\, offerings and generosity. Two bowls will be available at an event to practice dana for the teacher and IMSB; we encourage you to give joyfully and generously\, according to your resources and means. IMSB is a 501(c) (3) organization. All donations are tax deductible as permitted by law. \n
