SUMMARY:Walking the Path 2014: Developing the Four Foundations of Mindfulness - A six-month program
DESCRIPTION:Walking the Path 2014\nDeveloping the Four Foundations of Mindfulness\nA six-month program\nwith Shaila Catherine\nSaturday\, September 13\, 2014 – Saturday\, February 7\, 2015\n9:30 am – 6:00 pm \nNourish the resolve to deepen your spiritual practice! \nSeptember 13—Four Powerful Qualities\nOctober 11—Full Awareness\nNovember 8—Mindfulness of Body\nDecember 13—Mindfulness of Feeling\nJanuary 10—Mindfulness of Mind\nFebruary 7—Working with Hindrances \nWALKING THE PATH is a six-month program designed to intensify your personal meditative path and integrate dhamma wisdom in everyday life. This program gathers a group of committed practitioners to work more closely with Shaila during the year\, strengthen community\, and receive personalized guidance. The program includes monthly day-long retreats\, private interviews\, group discussions\, and the intention to attend one retreat with Shaila. \nThis year’s Walking The Path theme is inspired by the Four Foundations for Mindfulness (Satipatthana Sutta) and three recently published books by Joseph Goldstein\, Bhante Gunaratana\, and Analayo Bhikkhu that explore this discourse. Many practitioners consider the Satipatthana Sutta to be among the most important and practical teachings of the Early Discourses of the Buddha. It offers pragmatic instructions for establishing mindfulness with attention to body\, feelings\, mind\, and various dhamma objects\, and frames the practice with the aim of awakening. This single discourse is a rich resource for meditators at all levels of experience—from beginning meditators who seek support in establishing a daily practice to advanced practitioners who wish to intensify their commitment\, clarify their goal\, and refine their skills. \nPARTICIPANTS SHOULD BE WILLING TO:\n1. Maintain a daily meditation practice.\n2. Participate in our monthly day-long meditation programs in Los Altos (9:30 am – 6:00 pm).\n3. Have an individual consultation with the teacher 3-4 times during the year either in-person or on the telephone.\n4. Participate in periodic discussion groups\, most often during the last hour of each day-long program (between 5 and 6pm). \nREGISTRATION: Send registration fee of $125 made payable to ‘Bodhi-Retreats’ to Jennifer Dungan\, 565 Anza St.\, Mountain View\, CA 94041. \nInclude a note describing:\n1. How long you have been meditating & if you have attended either meditation retreats or IMSB’s Walking The Path previously.\n2. Any particular motivation for participating in this program at this time\, or anything you would like the teacher to know in advance.\n3. Include your name and complete contact information: address\, telephone\, and e-mail address. \nNo one will be turned away for lack of funds. The registration fee is intended establish a commitment and facilitate our registration process. These funds will be used for IMSB retreat scholarships to help WTP members with financial need to complete the retreat portion of the program. \nEVERYONE IS WELCOME. Chairs are provided. Bring a cushion if you prefer to sit on the floor. \nFor more information contact: sit imsb or (408) 335-6417. \nIMSB relies upon the generosity of participants to support our teachers and cover organizational expenses.
