SUMMARY:Tuesday Online: Bob Stahl—Healing the Heart
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Online: Healing the Heart: Reconciliation & Metta\nWith Bob Stahl \nJuly 21\, 2020 \nAs our meditation practice matures\, we may see the importance of relinquishing grudges\, judgments and resentments through honest reconciliation. Through these practices we may discover the liberating experience of authentic reconciliation that may lead to greater peace and forgiveness. \nWe will focus and inquire on self-reconciliation — the harm we have brought to ourselves through feelings of shame\, unworthiness or deficiency and then explore reconciliation to those we’ve hurt and to those who’ve hurt us. \nThis offering will include a talk on reconciliation\, a guided meditation on reconciliation and metta\, and large group discussion. \nTonight’s schedule will be a bit different: \n\n6:30 pm—Short sit to settle\n6:35 pm—Dhamma Talk on Reconciliation\n7:10 pm—Guided Meditation on Reconciliation and Metta\n7:40 pm—Large Group Discussion\n\n  \nPlease join us on Zoom. This event is appropriate for newcomers as well as experienced practitioners. The evening includes silent or guided meditation and teachings. \n  \nTakes place on Zoom! \nJoin the Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/88266320362?pwd=QWZpb2svQk9xZCtvWTZraXF5WTFKZz09 \nMeeting ID: 882 6632 0362\nPassword: metta4all \nOne tap mobile\n+16699006833\,\,88266320362# US (San Jose)\n+12532158782\,\,88266320362# US (Tacoma) \nDial by your location\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 929 205 6099 US (New York)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Germantown)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\nMeeting ID: 882 6632 0362\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kcSiCSJ1bl \n  \n\n  \nPlease visit our Teachers Page for biographies and photos of our speakers. \nInsight Meditation South Bay offers two weekly meditation programs. On Tuesdays\, we meet in Mountain View for our drop-in weekly program of meditation and teachings.  On Thursdays\, we meet in Saratoga for our Dhamma Classroom\, which offer a series of structured courses with registration\, and periodic drop-in practice events. \nOur Tuesday evening program usually includes a sitting meditation and Dhamma talk. The principal teacher is Shaila Catherine and guest speakers are featured regularly. Thematic series are periodically presented\, but whether or not a topic has been advertised in advance\, Shaila or a guest teacher will lead the sitting and offer teachings. See also weekly sitting. \nNewcomers are always welcome. To help newcomers get acquainted with mindfulness meditation and IMSB\, a senior member or teacher offers a beginner’s orientation beginning at 6:30 on the first Tuesday of each month. \nIMSB relies upon the generosity of participants to support our teachers and cover organizational expenses. Dana is a word in the ancient Pali language that describes donations\, offerings and generosity. Two bowls will be available at an event to practice dana for the teacher and IMSB. We encourage you to give joyfully and generously\, according to your resources and means. IMSB is a 501(c) (3) organization. All donations are tax deductible as permitted by law.

SUMMARY:Online Course - Finding Balance - with Kim Allen
DESCRIPTION:Due to the coronavirus concerns\, we have converted our Thursday evening course into an online format. We changed the time to enable meditators in other time zones to join us. Register Now! Scroll for tickets below.  \nFive Doorways to Finding Balance\nThe Spiritual Faculties in Meditation and Life\nA six-week ONLINE course led by Kim Allen and Shaila Catherine\nWhen the ground shifts beneath our feet\, how do we orient? What is reliable\, both as an inner refuge and as a source from which to act? Buddhist teachings emphasize the impermanence and unreliability of the world\, and they also offer reliable means to navigate such a world skillfully\, such that our life becomes a path to Awakening. In this series\, we will explore the five spiritual faculties (trust\, energy\, mindfulness\, concentration\, and wisdom) as reference points and doorways to finding balance and clarity amidst uncertainty. Each highlights a different approach to developing the mind and to acting with wisdom and compassion in our life. \n\nJul 16: The Spiritual Faculties as Indriya: Ways to Channel the Mind\, with Kim Allen\nJul 23: Trust\, with Kim Allen\nJul 30: Energy\, with Shaila Catherine\nAug 6: No class. Mid-course Break.\nAug 13: Mindfulness\, with Kim Allen\nAug 20: Concentration\, with Kim Allen\nAug 27: Wisdom\, with Kim Allen\n\nVIDEO CONFERENCES: We will use the Zoom video conference platform. Zoom is easy to access via computer or phone. More information will be provided in the confirmation materials after registering. WHO SHOULD JOIN: This course intended for people who have already been introduced to mindfulness meditation. COURSE LEVELS: It is designed as a level 1-2 course. Click this link for a key to course level designations. \n\nVisit our Teacher Page for teacher biographies and photographs. REGISTRATION: Registration is required for this course. Registration fees are non-refundable. To register\, select an option under the Tickets heading at the bottom of this page. (If you are viewing this page more than two months in advance of the course\, the Tickets heading might not yet appear\, so please check again later.) To register for a course\, you purchase one ticket\, which registers you for the entire class series. You only need to register once; you do not need to register separately for each class session. COURSE FEE: The sliding scale fee range is from $600 to $125 and will be shared between IMSB and the teacher(s). The lower end of the sliding scale is intended for those with limited financial means. The low rate of $125 is used for the most basic administrative costs. This base rate does not factor in compensation for teachers or ongoing administrative expenses for IMSB. If you pay at the mid to high range of the sliding scale\, your generosity supports those with limited income in attending our programs and also supports IMSB and the teachers. We encourage you to choose the highest level that is appropriate for your economic situation. SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE: A limited number of scholarships at the rate of $62.50 are available for those with very limited financial means. To request this scholarship rate\, please inquire with the registrar prior to selecting a ticket by contacting ThursdayClass. The registrar will send recipients of scholarships a coupon code that will lower the base rate by half during the registration process. TAX DEDUCTIONS: The basic registration fee is not tax deductible. Donations above the base rate will be considered voluntary contributions and are deductible for any amount that is over the base rate. Each January\, the IMSB treasurer sends donors letters that acknowledge the amount given for the previous year that is above the basic rate; this serves as documentation for tax deduction purposes. CANCELLATION POLICY: All fees and payments are non-refundable. If it becomes necessary to cancel participation in a course\, and the registrar is notified prior to the start of the first class meeting\, your registration fee will be converted into a voucher creditable towards the fee for a future IMSB Thursday class. Vouchers must be used within one year of the initial course start date\, and may be transferred to only one future course. Cancellations that occur after the start of the first class are not eligible for the voucher credit. \n\n \n \n \n \n
