Maria Straatmann, a former scientist and businesswoman, has been a student of Gil Fronsdal since 1997. Since her retirement she has variously served as chaplain, hospice volunteer and trainer with Zen Hospice Project, and Vipassana teacher, primarily at Insight Meditation Center of the Mid-Peninsula and other places in California and on-line. She is on IMC’s Chaplaincy Council, and is a Spirit Rock Buddhist Ritual Minister, and graduate of local dharma leader programs. Her spiritual journey leads her to emphasize mindfulness, stillness, and seeing things as they are for development of ease and joy in life.
