Chade-Meng Tan, author of Joy on Demand, guided joy inspiring micro-meditations and fielded questions about joy practices at IMSB’s Thursday evening class. Micro-meditations are brief meditative activities that can be done easily and quickly, by almost anyone.

For example:

  1. For the length of one breath, collect the mind; for the length of a second breath, relax; for the length of a third breath, bring up joy. Do this upon waking up, as you go to sleep, and before meetings.
  2. Once per hour, wish for someone to be happy, with a silent thought “May you by happy!” If joy arises within you, attend to that feeling of joy. Do this briefly, but frequently.

See for yourself how these simple practices can generate wholesome joy.
