It was a great joy to host Bhikkhu Bodhi this week when he led our monthly sutta study class. We have been studying the Numerical Discourses of the Buddha (Anguttara Nikaya) for the last few years, and 20 members of our Friday and Wednesday groups joined together to meet with Bhikkhu Bodhi. He offered us two exciting hours for in-depth questions and answers.

We touched on many different discourses that we have pondered in our study of this book. And he shared a little about his own four year process of translating the Numerical Discourses, comparing the sutras with parallel teachings in the early discourses, and studying the commentarial interpretations.

It was a privilege to have the opportunity to ask the translator himself about subtle questions of doctrine, teachings, interpretations, and translation choices.

Our study group is on it’s fourth and final year of studying this text. We have not yet selected the text that we will study in 2019, but information will be posted here by autumn.
